#35480 New Airport Select Tool...

Posted by TorqueWrench on 24 June 2006 - 04:28 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

There is a completely new design for Version 3...

I'm still not sure about including it in the current version. if i did do, it would be for solely beta testing purposes...

#35477 New Airport Select Tool...

Posted by TorqueWrench on 24 June 2006 - 04:07 PM in Game Discussion (SIM2)

I think at a quick count, we have around 750 airports in Version 3. These ranging every major airport in Europe & North America which serve over 50,000 commercial passengers per year. I've also tried to include at least one airport in every country world wide.

This is something i'm working on at the moment, its for V3 however i might modify it to include it in the current version.

Its a much simpler way to select airports...

For some reason I doubt that that is the ONLY flight that will be escorted by Tornados.

Probably one of the very few passenger services...

#35242 Crazy End of month time!!!!!

737MMA is correct in saying that time will travel at a different rate than it currently does which means that date change will come at varying hours throughout the day.

#35186 Virgin Atlantic Airways (A340 & B744)

Posted by TorqueWrench on 18 June 2006 - 01:07 AM in Pilot Job Discussion

Virgin Atlantic is currently recruiting and ask that prospective candidates have a minimum of 2500 hours total time - if coming from a commercial background this should also include at least 1500 hours commercial jet experience. You should also have either a UK ATPL or JAR licence, the right of abode in the UK and finally, you should be MCC qualified. Please note you must have access to a computer in order to receive company email notices and rosters.

If you meet these requirements, we would welcome an application from you. You can find our application form below. Please remember that we are interested in a wide variety of applicants and will continue to consider each CV on its individual merits. To make the most of the online application process, you need to fill in the form as fully as possible.

If suitable, your application will be added to our database. You will not need to update your details with us more than once a year (unless there are any major changes in your circumstances i.e. type conversion, command etc).

Please note that it is not necessary for you to call and confirm receipt of your application.

If you already have a current application with us you need not reapply - Your details will still be kept on our existing database and we will continue to look through this as and when interviews are set up.

Finally, thank you for applying and good luck!

#35184 Attempted Hijacking in ZA

Posted by TorqueWrench on 18 June 2006 - 01:02 AM in Real World Aviation

Well, I am not sure about the state of African Airport Security

Its actually very good... The South African police have a No bull**** attitude and are very strict. Made me strip down my camera and forced me to unpack all my lenses seperatly and show them that they all worked. Rather an inconvenience however they were packing a fairly large gun and i just wanted to go home, so no arguing.

They were also frisking EVERYONE regardless of what the Metal Detector said...

#34966 Copyright, Airlines, Etc

Posted by TorqueWrench on 12 June 2006 - 04:56 PM in Real World Aviation

it's not copyrighted material

It most certainly is...

I'll also take pictures of planes. The biggest thing you have to worry about is being hassled by the police. People seem to think that photographers are borderline terrorists and shouldn't be standing by the runway.

They do pose somewhat of a security risk and the extra policing is something alot of airports DONT like... Borderline terrorists they might not be, a pain in the arse to police... most certainly...

#34859 Fatal Error during aircraft change

Posted by TorqueWrench on 08 June 2006 - 11:39 AM in Bugs

I knew you wouldn't want to go down the PHP5 road cause PHP/MySQL integration usually means war between user and computer for most (and at best too)

As far as i know, PHP5 works fine with MySQL 4 and 5. I'm not going to upgrade PHP untill Version 3 is released due to code compability issues.

Apache 2 is not compatable with Apache 1.3 modules either. Rendering some modules we use useless... I've not got the time nor patience to start messing around reinstalling apache and all associated modules... Its what we call in the industry... "A Ball Ache"

#34858 Fatal Error during aircraft change

Not placing the blame on miller, but i think he has uploaded some new code which is conflicting with old code...

I'll restore a previous back up. No data has been lost, its not a database error, simply a PHP Error...

#34848 Fatal Error during aircraft change

Posted by TorqueWrench on 08 June 2006 - 05:56 AM in Bugs

If it is indeed a hacker, I'm gonna start demanding that my password stop being plaintexted and demand it be MD5 hashed, with a salt key from now on.

Demand all you like, it will get you no where...

Upgrade to PHP4.4.2 and Apache 2

Apache 2 is unstable, the latest stable version of PHP is actually 5.1.4

The server has not been "hacked" in any sense of the word, we changed one file which then caused this error...

And if anyone is SO worried about the security of their password, i reccomend you take the following action...

Have a different password for every login that you have over all websites...
Change all passwords to a different alpha numerical string every 30 days
Do no reuse the same password more than once

#34456 Can I Have Your Attention Please...

Posted by TorqueWrench on 31 May 2006 - 11:32 AM in Announcements

Btw, I haven't heard a single word from Miller in recent times. Has he decided to leave player relations to others and concentrate on V3? Or what is he up to?

I'm sure miller will fill people in on this, but i'll quickly explain...

He's been writing a thesis for a number of months to complete his masters degree (Or some form of degree). He's recently just finished, however he is taking a few extra weeks to spend with his wife before he throws himself in at the deep end with V3. I met with him again on friday/saturday and we ensured we both understood where were were at and what was left to complete before we open the doors for V3.

My next meeting with him is in July. I'll make another update announcement then for everyone.

Hi Guys,

Quick Announcement covering a few important points

  • Version 3.0.1 Alpha
  • Alpha/Beta Testing Team
  • Data Manager

Version 3.0.1 Alpha
This is the current version of code. The V3 game code is not complete, however I estimate it to be around 45% Completed. The structure is forming and we have a very sturdy foundation and Backend to support the flash new front end of the website.

Alpha/Beta Testing Team
I have invited 3 members from the website to assist in Alpha/Beta testing the new version of code as i write it. We will NOTbe taking applications, this is an INVITE ONLY position. I Will be sending our Private Messages to Forum Members and Airlines invited more testers as the code progresses.

Data Manager
I'd like to officially announce 737MMA as the new Data Manager for Airline Empires. It will be his job to write all the information to be used by the players in the games. Aircraft Data, Airports, Countries etc etc. Contactable on data[at]airlineempires[dot]net.

Any queries with data IN THE NEW VERSION ONLY should be sent to him.

He has done some excellent work on his "Trip Time Calculator" which impressed me. I invited him onto the team. Miller has confirmed that he is happy with the choice and therefore we welcome him into the Fraternity... :D.

Thanks!
