Fleet management

Would it be an idea to change the scheduling not to schedule by plane, but create a route by TYPE of aircraft, so if you would have for example 3 Q400's, you'd have a total time available of 66 hours... This way fleet commonality would be an advantage and it saves the trouble of shifting flights forward and backwards to fit them efficient. And secondly, it would reduce the need to fly short hops with A333's which seems to pee of some people...
In real life airlines also assign different airplanes to a certain route everyday, so it would add realism as well.
Second idea: A bonus for having fleet commonality, using less different types of engines, etc. For example, 5% lower operating costs or something if you have one type of aircraft...
Just flame ahead!

I'm not sure if I completely understand your first idea though about types. Its looks promising, but could you clarify it for me?
Thanks,
Alex

Secondly, the problem with the idea is that a person could then have one aircraft flying twice LAX-LAS and thrice DUB-LHR in the same day.

But exactly how it should be carried out...I'm not sure

I saw that show, 50 Things To Do Before You Die. I would have thought the obvious one was "Shout For Help"

Hi there!
Second idea: A bonus for having fleet commonality, using less different types of engines, etc. For example, 5% lower operating costs or something if you have one type of aircraft...
It already exists: http://forums.airlin...46&postcount=18
The only reason so many of us have mixed fleets now is because of the long lines for particular types of aircraft. In order to expand faster, many of us have purchased anything that has the capacity and will work on weeding out undesirable types later.

I owuld love to see 'random' bad events added. Like aircraft problems, or ground problems, weather, etc. kinda like the strange but true things that befall real airlines.

I have enough issue with the competition, I dont need an A333 to crash on me to cause more havoc...
No, nothing that drastic. Plus, I don't particularly care for making the loss of life that simple. NO loss of life, is one of the reasons I play AE rather than other MMOG's.
How about an accident like the AA 767 at LAX this week. Engine goes up in flames during maintence. Noone got hurt, but how long is that 767 out of service? Just that kind of stuff. Example.- fuel truck runs into tug and damages landing gear on your A333, cost $10k and 3 lost flights(and resulting revenue).

. Like in the game Airlines 2 (PC game).....the randomness factor is WAY TO FING SHORT! When i ran the game on high mode...I had planes crashing every 5 seconds. Although crashes should not be programmed, and probably aren't, that factor on who gets some maintenance incident....fire..etc etc...best off to not have it PERIOD.
If you watch the trailer for AE, some of those Airlines that failed, had circumstances beyond their control that affected their demise or failure to carry on as themselves. TWA never recovered from flight 800, Pan Am never recovered from the fear spread against overseas travel by hijacking in the early 80's Laker was basically legislated out of existance, at BA's insistance. Laker's DC-10's weren't able to handle the long haul from London to LA,either(couple that with the grounding of all DC-10's for a period in 1979.)
Even look at the lines that are still active and hampered by others actions. Do you think AA and UA were chosen by the 9/11 attackers by accident? What about Air Tran? They had to change their entire name to escape their past(Valu Jet)
Wouldn't some sort of bad event generator be more realistic??
BTW, still don't have Airlines 2. There is an Airlines 7 out in AU, but I can't find a copy here(stateside), and shipping from AU is expensive.

Edit: Lol...plus you of all people....if we had a bad event generator...think about the start ups out there...first day on the job, and the beech needs to have an engine replaced!.....i would kill to get that thing out....lets keep it simple®....no bad event generator.
As for Airlines 2.....its fun until youve occupied every gate and all you can do after that is replace your airplanes that keep freaking crashing every godforsaken second. Fun for hours....but not that much more in my opinion. AE is the best one out there.....and my parents wont pay for the Airlines Online Version.

I thought that was a strictly online version. Try this for US shipping:
